All of these Shearing training courses are available to be subsidised by up to 80% for registered individuals (Wales Only - Conditions Apply). Before you book the course please contact your local Farming Connect Liaison Officer in order to apply for funding.

Funding must be confirmed before you book on to the course.

Anyone who is NOT eligible for the funding or lives outside of Wales will be charged the normal course fee of GBP360 including VAT.

Improver to Advanced Shearing.

This is a two-day course open to those who have been shearing in the industry and have achieved the minimum of the "Blue Seal" (shear 6 sheep per hour), or can shear 100 + sheep per day. The course will cover instruction and practical training in the following: 

  • Health and Safety in the Industry.
  • Animal Welfare and Animal Handling 
  • Team Work
  • Comb selection and gear experting
  • Machine and Handpiece Maintenance
  • Grinding (sharpening) Combs and Cutters 
  • High level of instruction on pattern, and helping improve quality and tallies
  • A pathway to the next level

This will be a 2-day practical course for all ability levels. 

Woolhandling 

For woolhandlers of all experience levels 

  • Health & Safety 
  • Wool terminology
  • Practical Training in woolhandling
  • Packing (or pressing) and stitching woolsacks 
  • Preparation guidelines for Full Wool,
  • Non-technical exercises
  • Theory exercises
  •  Practical assessment for Certificate in Woolhandling 
  • Certification recognised by contractors in NZ
